Welcome to Oxford Brookes Student Switch Off

Student Switch Off is your chance to win prizes for yourself and a celebration for your hall, all for doing easy things to save energy.

Celebration for my hall?

Yep! All the halls at Oxford Brookes are competing to get the most students saving energy by taking part in Student Switch Off, and at the end of the year the hall that has the most students involved gets a celebration! To help your hall come top make sure you like the Facebook page, join the mailing list on the right and follow our four energy saving tips.

How do I win Ben and Jerry’s?

We’ve got loads of great prizes to give out in our photo competitions, like Ben and Jerry’s (big tubs!), Lush Gift Boxes and NUS Extra cards. These run once a fortnight and usually involve just uploading a picture of yourself saving energy onto the Facebook Fan Page. Simple! There are lots of other competitions as well – get on the email list and “Like” the Facebook Fan Page so you don’t miss out.

Results last year…

Crescent won in 2012/13 by saving more energy than any other hall.  As their prize they won a Ben & Jerry’s giveaway. All the halls did really well and overall electricity use in halls has reduced by 10% which is enough to

  • Keep 70 tonnes of CO2 out of the atmosphere
  • Keep a 15W energy-saving lightbulb on for 984 years!
  • Boil over 4 million cups of tea!
