Welcome to LSE Student Switch Off

Student Switch Off is your chance to win prizes for yourself and your hall, all for doing easy things to save energy.

Prize for my hall?

Yep! All the halls at LSE are competing to save energy and at the end of the year there will be a celebration for the hall that’s saved the most energy! We’ll also be monitoring your recycling throughout the year so you’ll need to work together with your flatmates to win the prizes. To help your hall come top make sure you follow our  four energy saving tips.

How do I win Ben and Jerry’s?

We’ve got loads of great prizes to give out in our photo competitions, like Ben and Jerry’s (big tubs!), Lush gifts and NUS Extra cards. These run once a fortnight and usually involve just uploading a picture of yourself saving energy onto the Facebook page. Simple! There are lots of other competitions as well get on the email list and “Like” the Facebook page so you don’t miss out.

Results last year…

We’ve added up the energy saving for the year and Carr Saunders have won! But it was a close one and all the halls did really well. Overall electricity use in halls has reduced by over 7% which is enough to

  • Keep 93 tonnes of CO2 out of the atmosphere
  • Keep a 15W energy-saving lightbulb on for 1,320 years!
  • Boil 5.4 million cups of tea!
