Neil JenningsProgramme ManagerNeil is the founder and programme manager of the Student Switch Off having set up the campaign while doing a PhD at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at UEA. He occasionally dresses up in spandex (for work) and once lent his bike to MC Harvey of So Solid Crew!
Joanna RomanowiczSSO Europe Project ManagerJoanna has been working for the NUS Sustainability team since 2010, however started her journey with the Student Switch Off campaign in April 2014. In her role she project manages the EU funded European expansion of Student Switch Off (SAVES). As such, she works with universities in Cyprus, Sweden, Greece, Lithuania and UK to help drive positive environmental behaviour amongst students living in halls of residence. Joanna has a degree in Human Sciences from the University of Oxford and a Masters in Environment, Science and Society from UCL. In her spare time, Joanna enjoys hiking and camping, playing netball, long cycle rides, yoga, learning French and playing tennis!
Jade MonroeProject OfficerJade will be running the Student Switch Off campaign nationally for a second year running, prior to this she ran the campaign alongside many other environmental projects at the University of the West of Scotland, as part of the Transition University movement. When not at work you can find Jade either in her garden, making something or climbing high things.
Charlotte BonnerProject OfficerCharlotte has been at NUS for nearly 4 years, mainly running and developing the Green Impact programme. Before that she worked in the private sector and as a student, as Ethical and Environmental Officer at York. She’s now joined the Student Switch Off team to get back to her roots working with students. She’s known for her love of bikes and cakes. She’s really really happy when she gets to combine the two.
Laura WilliamsProject OfficerLaura began campaigning on sustainability during her sabbatical year as Campaigns Officer at the University of Manchester. Three years on she’s back in the student movement and loving that all things eco are still at the heart of what we do. Outside of work you’ll find her in parks foraging for fruits, in the garden attempting to grow prize worthy veg or in the kitchen brewing a beverage or three. Food rules.
Jen StrongProject OfficerJen is a graduate of LSE where she studied Environmental Policy with Economics, is an associate member of IEMA and enjoys spending her spare time being crafty sewing and knitting homemade things for friends and family.
Michelle FarrellProject OfficerMichelle has been working at NUS on sustainability projects since 2013. Prior to this she worked in a number of environmental behaviour change roles, including a stint at The University of Birmingham. When Michelle is not working, she enjoys trying out new vegetarian restaurants and taking her dog to the pub.
Alex HendersonProject OfficerAlex has recently joined the SSO team and will be supporting institutions in Scotland, Northern England and Northern Ireland. Following her time as Ethics and Environment Officer at Newcastle University, Alex went on to work for the EAUC in Scotland, supporting the delivery of the Universities and Colleges Climate Commitment for Scotland for over 2 years. On a sunny day you will find her up Arthur’s Seat, but when the Scottish winter closes in she will be by a warm fire, knitting with her cat curled up on her knee.
Kim CroasdaleProject OfficerKim has been with NUS since 2013, and has enjoyed working on the various projects and programmes with a range of enthusiastic staff and students. After a degree in Zoology & Psychology, Kim worked at Sheffield for a year, helping to improve their impact, before joining NUS to tackle sustainability on a wider scale. In her spare time, Kim can usually be found wandering through fields with a dog or two, or enjoying a nice calming cup of Fairtrade tea!
Rachel SoperProject OfficerRachel joined the team in 2014 and is a recent graduate from the University of York with a degree in Environmental Economics and Environmental Management. During her time at York Rachel was heavily involved with Student Switch Off and Green Impact as well as the Union’s Cocktail Society! Rachel spends a lot of her free time upcycling clothes and has a particular penchant for tie-dye. When her hands aren’t stained a funny colour Rachel also likes going to concerts and music festivals.
Odette WillsProject OfficerOdette is based in the Cardiff Office working for NUS Wales on all things green. Before NUS Odette completed a research masters looking at a fungus to help farming, while also campaigning on environmental issues, at Exeter University. While not at work Odette can be found walking with her dog, cycling the Welsh hills, on her allotment or cooking. She also has her own business running a bike repair workshop called ‘Bike Anatomy’ with her partner!

Fran BoxProject OfficerFran has been working for NUS since 2014, running student switch off at a number of universities across the UK. Fran worked previously in the charity sector, trying to combat low levels of social mobility in the UK through running programmes in secondary schools. Fran is a keen cyclist and in her spare times runs a community garden in East London.
