Students make spring term a Switch Off success!

It’s been a fantastic spring term for the Student Switch Off campaign. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who’s taken part. Over the course of the campaign so far, students have submitted more than 1,300 photos of their energy saving activities and completed over 6,000 climate quizzes. But most importantly, they’ve saved a massive 860 tonnes of CO2 – that’s enough to power a 15 Watt light bulb for over 12,000 years!

“To save energy, the rest of my house and me have been turning down the heating a bit (and instead wearing extra jumpers), unplugging appliances when we have finished with them and making sure all the lights are turned off when we leave a room.”

Katy Rose Spearing, Chester University, Parkgate Road Halls

We give an exclusive party for the halls that save the most energy in their university, so we’re busy cooking barbecues, throwing club nights and serving up dinner parties to everyone who’s worked hard to save our planet! The campaign continues after the Easter break, when there will be loads more prizes to be won every fortnight.

“I want to make a difference to the world and make sure generations to come are provided with the electricity I am saving.”

Bethy-Kate Hamilton, MMU, Goostry Hall
