Social Switch Off at UCL’s Hawkridge House

At UCL two of our fantastic volunteers, Adelia and Cristian, put on their own Student Switch Off social event to raise awareness in their halls of residence – Hawkridge House.

IMG_6885[1]They gave a presentation on what Student Switch Off is and then had a collaborative discussion with their flat-mates on how energy can be saved by all the residents at Hawkridge House – and they came up with some great ideas like having a ‘switch off hour’ at midnight so that corridor lights are not left on overnight, putting on a movie night with all the lights off and having an acoustic music night in the common room where the only ticket to attend is to switch off the lights in your room!

The event was attended by lots of the residents as well as two of the Vice Wardens. Having students and staff collaborating on these important issues is the best way to make the biggest impact!

They also created their own ‘Hawkridge Agreement’ out of recycled card with the actions they wanted residents to take.

Having events like this are great ways of engaging others in saving energy. If you’re interested in volunteering with us or putting on your own Switch Off event in your hall click here to find your university and get in contact with the member of staff who runs the campaign there. We can give you some hints, tips and support!
