What have we been up to?

To celebrate Go Green Week 2013, we launched the second part of our nationwide Climate Change Quiz, putting the energy saving knowledge of thousands of students across the UK to the test. We were delighted to see how many of you had remembered our tips and tricks for saving energy, with most people scoring highly. If that wasn’t exciting enough, just by taking part students were entered into a draw to win tickets on the Eurostar to Paris! The tickets were won by Kirsty Harvey from the University of Northampton, Bon voyage!

Over the Valentine’s season the team visited loads of halls across the UK, getting students to show their pan lids some love (using one saves up to 90% of the energy it takes to cook food!) We’ll be running a few more competitions before the end of the year, so don’t forget to ‘like’ your university’s page on Facebook (find my university)

As the end of the academic year approaches, many of you will be looking for private accommodation for next year. Don’t get left out in the cold – we strongly recommend that you ask your prospective landlord to show the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for their house. This provides an indication of how energy efficient the house is (the scale goes from A to G with A being the best) and is likely to have a direct impact on how much it costs to keep your house warm. PLEASE try to avoid F and G rated properties if you don’t want to run the risk of being cold all the time or having massive energy bills!
