Happy Easter from Student Switch Off

Student Switch Off has had a great (yet slightly chilly) term and team SSO has been busy touring the UK visiting halls, running Green Week events and giving out prizes across the 54 participating universities.

Just under 22,000 students have now pledged to save energy during their time in university residences, amazing! The fortnightly competitions have had over 1,350 photos submissions showing the creative, innovative and fun ways to save energy in halls. To reward these brilliant photos we have given away prizes from free bowling to Lush goodies, and not forgetting lots of Ben & Jerry’s of course!!

Through our visits to halls we have now taken almost 2,000 photos of students saving energy in their halls and these photos have received just under 20,000 likes!! During national Go Green Week in February we were pleased to have engaged with hundreds of students through a number of activities including our infamous energy saving olympics.

On top of this in February we launched our second Climate Change Quiz of the academic year and we have now had over 16,600 students testing their skills and climate knowledge through our quizzes.

Let’s not forget the great work that students at 18 of our universities have been putting in to try and claim the accolade of being the best recyclers. Great recycling efforts have been rewarded with chocolates, whilst those that need a bit more practice have been left with handy hints and tips on what rubbish can go where.

To everyone off for Easter we hope that you have a great break (don’t work too hard).  Student Switch Off will be back next term with more of the regular competitions as well as throwing loads of parties to celebrate the hard work of the best energy saving halls!! If you’d like to run the campaign at your institution next year please Contact Neil for more information.
